From the tender age of discovery, Atanu Chakrabarti immersed himself in
the rich tapestry of Subcontinental Indopak classical music. His early
journey was a melodic exploration, beginning with vocal training and
then weaving through the delicate tones of flute and the lyrical
resonance of mandolin. It was the sarod, however, that became the
instrument of his soul, guiding him into the profound lineage of the
Maihar gharana. Under the tutelage of the esteemed Anil Mukherjee, a
luminary of the sarod, Atanu refined his technique and expressive depth.
His pursuit of mastery led him further to Pt. Partha Sarathi, a devoted
disciple of the legendary Pt. Ravi Shankar, and presently, he receives
guidance from the illustrious Dr. Pt. Ranajit Sengupta, a torchbearer of
the Maihar tradition.
Over the years, Atanu Chakrabarti’s performances have enchanted
audiences across the Subcontinental Indopak and beyond, gracing European
stages with his evocative interpretations. His artistry has resonated in
esteemed gatherings such as Subha hi Benaras, Subarna Sangeet Samaraha,
Charothi Shiksha o Sanskriti Music Conference, Padmashri Pt. Syaram
Sangeet Samrti Samaraho, and Promod Bapat Sangeet Samaraho in Gwalior,
among numerous other revered platforms. Each performance is a testament
to his dedication, technical brilliance, and the timeless beauty of the
sarod.
