DescriptionOur concert is a journey into the musical salons and theatres of Athens
during the decades 1920–1940 — an era that gifted Greek song with elegance, wit, and a disarming tenderness. These were the years when the operetta and the urban light song were blossoming and the great composers gave the city its own unique sound. During the evening, we will encounter the melodies of Attik, the theatrical charm of Sakellariadis, the sophisticated music of Kostas Giannidis, as well as the romantic songs once performed by Sophia Vembo, Danae, Tonis Maroudas, and Nikos Gounaris — pieces that speak of love in Athenian courtyards, moments of longing, sweet innocence, and the subtle irony of the time. Songs such as "Άστα τα μαλλάκια σου" (Let Your Hair Down) and “Πόσο λυπάμαι" (How I Regret) carry the charm of a city that would sing its joys and sorrows with a smile. This is an evening when the Athens of a bygone age breathes again, illuminated by the romance of that era and filled with the stories that its people left behind in their songs.
