DescriptionStephen Meyer (violin, BE/USA) Jacqueline van der Zwan (flute, NL/ARG) Anna van Nieukerken (piano, NL) Tango Por Tres is about connecting past, present and future in tango. This trio, which features Belgian-American violinist Stephen Meyer, Dutch-Argentine flutist Jacqueline van der Zwan, and Dutch pianist Anna van Nieukerken, creates their own arrangements of instrumental tangos in a unique configuration: violin, flute and piano. With this configuration, Tango Por Tres has returned to one of the original tango instrumental combinations, violin and flute, which together with piano – a later addition to tango music – connects different periods of tango history. By connecting these periods of tango history, Tango Por Tres arranges and updates the tangos of yesterday, interprets those of today and creates the tangos of tomorrow. What music can you expect to hear? New, exciting versions of tangos of Horacio Sálgán, Astor Piazzolla, Juan Carlos Cobián, and Julio de Caro, amongst others. Tango Por Tres regularly performs in the Netherlands and in Belgium. The group recently had the honor of performing at the Tango for Musicians Festival in Portland, Oregon; the trio was also invited to perform at the opening concert of the 2016 Chamber Music Northwest Festival.
