Description
This course is designed to provide a full understanding of makam through the repertoire of classical ottoman music and Greek traditional music. Having Ottoman Music and Greek traditional music as a starting point we will examine the system of melodic types of Turkish music. Our aim is to understand the characteristics that each macam gathers through the musical phrases of tracks. Initially, we will deal with the basic sounds of makam and their improvisation. The course consists of 8 lessons. Course duration is 90 minutes.
Cost is 100 euros for the whole traject.
On 13/1/15 20h there will be a first meeting and presentation of the course.

Chrysa Karaiskou was born in Greece and graduated from the Department of Traditional Music at the Epirus Institute of Technology, Arta. She specialized in kanun. She continued her studies with masterclasses of Turkish ottoman music in Istanbul with musicians as Omer Erdogdular, Goksel Baktagir etc.
