Paulette Verlée, the alter ego of Veerle Pollet, learned to play the piano at a young age through the works of Bach and Schumann, but it was ultimately Debussy, Poulenc and Satie who inspired this project. Her music can be described as post-minimalism or “extended” neoclassical, although she prefers not to label it. Instead, she sees her work as a synthesis of several styles close to her heart—classical, jazz, pop and even electronic music. In her compositions, she combines the piano with or without strings and subtle electronics, always aiming to touch the listener by focusing on the musical essence. No grand gestures, no overstatement—just the simplicity of beautiful music. For this concert, Paule'e goes completely wireless. Together with her long time cellist, Maaike Organe, she returns to music in its purest form, presenting a fully acoustic performance. Her music is regularly broadcast on Klara, Radio 1 and La Première, and can also be heard in television programmes such as Het Hoge Noorden and In Hemelsnaam.
