Pianist and post-doctoral researcher (PhD in Arts: Music Performance), Dr. Giusy Caruso is chair of the research group CREATION at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp [BE], where she holds workshops on the analysis, preparation and creation of music performance. She carries on her artistic activity in important institutions in Europe and in prestigious halls in Asia, South America, USA. Her projects range from classical repertoires to the most contemporary electroacoustic experimentation. Giusy Caruso transforms into synaesthetic poetry the most recent neuroscience studies on performance gesture, biomechanics, human-machine interaction and artificial intelligence by becoming herself an artistic body. She is able to remotely manipulate the sound of the grand piano with unthinkable devices for a normal concert practice, by using sensors to capture movements and electrical impulses in her muscles, as well as virtual and augmented reality systems that make her play in duet with her avatar in the Metaverse. Any barriers can thus crumble down by challenging any convention and ultimately create a new genre of 'phygital' performance. Among numerous awards, such as the IBLA Grand Prize Special Mention for the interpretation of Olivier Messiaen's Preludes, in 2023 she gains the prestigious S+T+ARTS Prize Honorary Mention annually conferred by the European Commission to pioneering research projects that interface art, technology and science. https://www.giusycaruso.com/ EventList powered by schlu.net |
