Description

In 2017, French actress and director Fanny Ardant chooses two tracks of Deleyaman for the soundtrack of her third feature film "Le Divan de Stalin".
During the same period, Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance) contributes to two tracks of the band's 7th album, The lover, The stars & The citadel.

In 2019, Dead Can Dance covers Deleyaman's "Autumn Sun" on stage including it on the DCD setlist throughout their European tour "Dead Can Dance: A Celebration - Life & Works 1980-2019."

Bio
(by Benoit Fournier)

To define a moving entity such as music or a career, we are tempted to start with an anchor point ... a constant, a recurrence.
One could say that since its creation in 2000, Deleyaman revolves around its founder Aret Madilian, multi-instrumentalist, principal craftsman of the music and the sound. However, it is no less true that the band revolves around the duet of vocalists, Aret and Beatrice, as the voices are at the heart of the emotion, the meaning, the very raison d'être of this music .
But then, what about this chant, this third singular voice of the duduk, which is in each of their albums, and in the complexity of which seems to focus all that makes their identity: roots, humanity, space, melancholy and freedom.
The truth is probably that, beyond the changes, the friends who come and go, the personalities who have each, over time, contributed to the singular and cosmopolitan building block of Aret, Béatrice and Gérard, it is this original trio which is the solid trunk of the Deleyaman tree.

Deleyaman is cosmopolitan by nature. Béatrice Valantin the french female voice of the band has been influenced by the music of her time as well as the sacred chants from her childhood.

Gerard has dedicated his life to exploring and discovering his Armenian-Caucasian origins, whether it be through the creation of a traditional dance company or through his thorough and respectful practice of the ancestral instrument the Duduk.

And finally Aret, born and raised in Istanbul to a Greek-Armenian family, migrating to Los Angeles at the age of 13. It is within these geographical and cultural opposites that he has shaped his personality, taking his first creative steps as a musician in Southern California.

He forms his first band in Los Angeles. He is influenced by the post-punk movement and bands from Factory Records and the California counter culture. His debut 12" 45rpm is produced by SPOT from SST Records (Black Flag, Hüsker Du, Minutemen) and released under the name "Vogue" aka "Wog".

A label signing and Europe ... initially moving from Los Angeles to Paris, Aret finally settles in Normandy. This region of France is not simply the place of chance encounters; country land, forests, gray sea shores and silence, a much slower pace. It is, indeed, the canvas onto which the music of the band will be painted.

Deleyaman's debut album 00/1 is released in September 2001, followed by six other albums that will see the work of the band evolve, from the deep, dark and refined ethereal genre that culminates in their third album "3", to a music increasingly revealing the plurality of its influences.

New Album - Sentinel
(by Benoit Fournier)

An album remains an essential format for Deleyaman. A long, necessary time, a path that must be taken. From the mists of "Exil", with its hypnotic and beaded soul of clear guitars, to the daring clear obscure mood of "Slaves", throughout the ten paintings, "Sentinel" toils the conviction that the beauty of dawn is born first from the night, that a ray of sunshine is never more beautiful than when it pierces, just after the rain.

It is not a matter of contrasts, but of connections, their conception of relation between all things, this certainty that it is within the distances and the differences that the stakes of completeness and accuracy lie. A music that places glimmers of hope in the heart of nostalgia, and whose soothing sweetness comes from the acceptance of melancholy. The sparse touches of the piano and the guitar open the space for textures that intertwine and connect. The rhythms inhabit the calmness; to the love of the pictorial and landscapes answer the echo of profound human emotions. Led by the voices of Aret and Beatrice, working the shadow and the light, alongside Gerard's ancient wind instrument the duduk and a newcomer Guillaume Leprevost on bass, Deleyaman continue their path. Wanderers, awake on a peaceful road.
