Ifigenia Ioannou is a professional singer and kanun player with years of
experience on many music scenes in Greece and abroad. On Friday, September
7, Ifigenia with her kanun will present songs of Greek urban folk music,
focusing mainly on the rich Smyrna-oriented and rebetiko repertoire. These
are songs that kanun either plays role in the first performances as a
leading instrument in the orchestras of the interwar period or it is
adapted by her to the melodies of Skarvelis, Tountas, Dragatsis,
Vamvakaris and Tsitsanis.
Stergios Papadopoulos is a professional guitar player, who provides a
strong and playful basis, ensuring the rhythm and the harmony in any Greek
urban folk composition and improvisation.
Ifigeneia and Stergios shall attribute the nostalgic and sometimes dynamic
atmosphere of the age of the gramophone.
