“Belgian artists, Philippe Tasquin and Julie Jaroszewski - composer/arranger
and singer/actress respectively - belong to a group called Furia.
The connotations linked to this name could evoke a "terrifying" or
"persecuting" side, inasmuch as it is linked to Roman mythology and its
hellish goddesses. However, if the duo is fully within its rights in seeking
an identity of such dimensions, it is due to the unfair and oppressive
political system (capitalist, colonial, imperialist) against which they fight.
As a politically active duo, Philippe Tasquin and Julie Jaroszewski sing for
justice and emancipation, magnifying the struggles of peoples on all
continents. In parallel, they aim to promote a new form of poetic and
musical expression, to give protest songs back their aesthetic side; the
art - in the fullest sense of the word - that allows the word as well as the
sound to transcend itself. All this so that singing and enchanting may go
hand in hand, to the delight of music lovers and souls condemned to poetry.”
