The music band ‘DITHEN’ (Thee-then, one who appears to be different from who he really is) was formed in Athens in 1994 from a team of young musicians, with the purpose of performing and studying the repertoire of songs and music, coming from the tradition of Asia Minor and of the Estudiantes of Smyrna and Constantinople, as well as songs from the rebetiko school of Piraeus. One of their aspirations is to create an atmosphere and aesthetic, which refers to ways of entertainment of a past era, the era in which the abovementioned music bloomed. A time characherized by the love for music, the eagerness to excell and the authenticity of people. A first testament of the maturity of the band, is the release of their first album 'Glikias Avgis Adamoma' (Meeting at sweet dawn). It was released in the summer of 2008 under the record company 'LEGEND'. The tracklist includes unknown, in the majority of them, rebetiko songs and songs from Smyrna. It is an honour for the band that this album features, in addition to the band's singers, three important greek singers: Panagiotis Lalezas, Yannis Lempesis and Manolis Dimitrianakis.
We have also collaborated with leading musicologists, who have a deep knowledge of the rebetiko and Smyrna songs, such as Panos Savvopoulos, Panagiotis Kounadis, Nikos Politis, Vasilis Petrohilos etc.
