TRISTAN DRIESSENS (‘ûd) and SIMON LELEUX (tombak, bendir and derbuka) collaborated intensely through several musical adventures, going from classical Turkish music (Lâmekân Ensemble) to dancing folk music (La Compagnie d’Elias). They started playing together through a mutual passion for Turkish makam music, which is the modal tradition that originated at the Ottoman court. With Istanbul as their main basis of inspiration, this duo presents a varied program with classical instrumental genres as peșrev, samaî et le taksîm, alongside swinging melodies from Greece and Azerbaijan. Through improvised dialogues that outline their sparkling virtuosity, these two befriended musicians will take you on a passionate journey to unbounded territories within the great Ottoman tradition of court music.
