23 CENTURIES OF HELLENIC MUSIC- Katerina Fotinaki & Orestis Kalampalikis

Description

KATERINA FOTINAKI & ORESTIS KALAMPALIKIS- 23 Centuries of Hellenic music

When you leave your country sometimes you get to know it better.
Is it nostalgia( 'nostos' as Homer called it), is it the bigger perspective you get from a distance? Is it the need of a 'motherland'? Whatever it may be, we feel it, from the beginning of our 'immigration'.
The scales, the rhythms, the prosodies we use today in our music often have an origin so ancient that even if we knew it, we might not dare to touch it.
We have decided to go some pages back and open the 'Book of Music' from the beginning.

Seikilos' Epitaph, the oldest Hellenic music piece remaining, then Byzantine hymns, 'Rizitika' songs from the mountains and from Crete, traditional music from North and South, melodies of the Ionian area, the danses of the Aegean Sea, the laments from Epirus, then Rebetiko songs, Athenian serenades, 'Nouvelle Vague' but also Hatzidakis, Theodorakis, Savvopoulos, Loizos, Xarhakos, and modern composers as Giorgos Kouroupos, Angelique Ionatos and others.
