A Ghazal is a form of Arabic poetry that became a popular poetic and musical genre in Persian, Urdu, and Hindi literature, originating in 7th Century Arabia and developing significantly through Persian poets like Rumi and Hafiz. Ghazal songs may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss, or separation from beloved, and the beauty of love inspite of that pain.
