Description
| Sytki Brahimi (1951) lives and works in Shkodra, Albania. Brahimi is a painter who shows us a surprisingly strong colouring, with themes that are remarkable by their simplicity and honesty. The ease and naturalness with which he alternates still lifes, landscapes, figures and abstract paintings are ample proof of his exceptional talent. His work betrays a great love for the Albanian people and the nature of his homeland. But it is impossible not to also read it as the cry of a rebel, a plea for more humanity and an ode to silence. Sytki Brahimi is professor of modern arts at the Art Academy of Shkodra. He studied at the Art Academy of Tirana at a time when contemporary art was demonized, hence invisible. For an artist who struggled this much to develop ideas and techniques that were considered to be subversive, being able now to teach them to others is like carrying over a burning match in a stormy night. This is the first time that Brahimi exhibits his paintings in our country. In Switzerland and Austria he is no longer a stranger. There, art lovers already know that his name stands for the true and pure art of painting. |
