MUSIC SOUP plays original arrangements on jazz standards, blues and latin tunes, trying to approach music with fresh ideas but -at the same time- respecting the jazz tradition.
MUSIC SOUP was originally formed as drumless trio, created in 2006 by the guitarist Nestor Dimopoulos and the singer-pianist Evgenia Karlafti with Pericles Trivolis on bass. As a trio they have played on festivals and several venues in Greece. Since 2008, they play in jazz clubs in Athens and festivals as a quartet, with drummer John Floros. MUSIC SOUP plays original arrangements on jazz standards, blues and latin tunes, trying to approach music with fresh ideas but -at the same time- respecting the jazz tradition. Main concern is the balance between the "group's sound", and the individuality of each musician, as well as the balance between the arrangements and improvisation. All these combine to achieve a spontaneous and "natural" interpretation of the music. SAL LA ROCCA is one of the greatest bass players in Belgium and Europe, who plays regularly with Steve Houben, Ivan Paduart, Bruno Castellucci, Toots Thielemans etc.
