BERT CORNELIS- SITAR, FABRICE DE GRAEF- BANSURI, CARLO STRAZZANTE- PERCUSSION

Description

Special concert of Indian Classical Music : Bert Cornelis (sitar) and Fabrice De Graef (bansuri).

In the first part of this concert both Fabrice and Bert will play a solo and the second part they will play together the jugalbandi.

All this with accompaniment by Carlo Strazzante (tabla-udu).

For the first time Fabrice and Bert will play together a Jugalbandi.  Litteraly jugalbandi means "entwined twins" and is in fact a duo in Indian Classical Music where two soloists, each from their own angle or point of view, build up the raga together, thus harmonizing the difference between their instruments, backgrounds and personalities.
Both Bert and Fabrice are known for their deep learning of this magnificent music with a few of the greatest masters : Fabrice learned as well with the world-known Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia as with the great L. Subramaniam for many years in India and Bert learned the unique Pathak Gharana (Style) in both Khayal and Dhrupad forms with his master Pt. Ashok Pathak, son of the legendary Pt Balaram Pathak.  Bert was also close with U. Sayeeduddin Dagar and passed with distinction his degree for classical music with Prayag Samiti at the University of Allahabad.

They both played whole over the world concerts with the finest musicians, and now they are happy to play for the first time together in Brussels...  They are also happy to play with the multi percussionist Carlo Strazzante.  Carlo has a lot of experience of accompaniment in Indian music; at this concert he will play an original mixture of the Indian tabla and the African udu, a terra cotta base percussion from Nigeria.
