On Thursday and Friday 26-27/4 we will take you on a journey to Ikaria, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The band "O Ollandos kai i parea tou" (The Dutchman and his friends), will introduce you to the idyllic atmosphere of the Ikarian village festival.
Nikos was raised in the Netherlands having roots from the island. He has been living there for many years, like the rest of the group. The trio is often found at village festivals, which are organized frequently on the Greek island by the village associations to raise money for local charities. The genres mainly being played are "Nisiotika", music of the Greek islands, but also other Greek music such as Laika and Rempetiko. European tangos and waltzes have also been a popular part of the repertoire since the 50s. Obviously there is no Ikarian village festival without the "Ikariotiko", the dance of the Island. Local people dance to this magical Dionysian melody while enjoying the Ikarian wine. That's exactly what we will be doing on Thursday and Friday 26-27/4! Violeta Ikari was born and raised on Ikaria island. She started singing at a very young age at the traditional village festivals. She took singing lessons, studied European and Byzantine music, writes lyrics and composes her own music, and she sang with very wellknown musicans, such as D. Savvopoulos, G. Kotsiras, Psarantonis etc on stage in Greece and Cyprus.
