The Aegean Sea has always been the sea of civilization, a path between East and West through which people, dreams, melodies and the magic of East travelled.

 

In Smyrna and Constantinople, cradles of Greek civilization, on the coasts of Asia Minor and in the Aegean islands, Greek people were famous for their feasts, their meraki and their liveliness.

 

The traditional Smyrna orchestra consisted of violin, santour (the so-called santouroviolia), oud and guitar, whereas on the islands the laouto was used instead of the guitar.

 

Following the musical tradition of Asia Minor and the Aegean islands, Dithen invites you to a music and dance evening which includes hasapiko dance, Constantinople tsifteteli and karsilamas, Smyrna syrtos, as well as balos and sousta from the Aegean islands.
