MEROPE- Lay-Down Concert

Description

Merope is an international band creating a very unique chemistry inspired by
Lithuanian and Indian ancient music traditions melted with jazz and
electronic music.
In the Pleiades Merope is a new star just coming from its matrix gas. Merope
bathed in diffuse teeming dust grains as the sun at birth. This image could
describe the sound of Merope, Beautiful melodies, loops and subtle harmonies
are creating the ethereal atmosphere of the Merope.
Merope is a new ritual music for our modern time.
This time Merope will play in a special trio setting delivering peaceful and
minimalistic soundscapes combined with nature inspired traditional
Lithuanian melodies mixed with improvisations.

Jean Christophe Bonnafous ( France ) - bansuri

Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė ( Lithuania ) - voice, kanklės

Bert Cools ( Belgium ) - guitars and effects

Jean Christophe Bonnafous had finished his studies in Indian Classical music under the tutelage of legendary flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.

Now he performs regularly alongside Hariprasad Chaurasia in Europe and India. He has already performed as a soloist in prestigious venues such as the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam and is currently collaborating on different musical projects within and beyond World, Jazz and Early Music. In 2010 Jean Christophe became a recipient of the prestigious Dutch HSP Award for Excellence.

Jean Christophe has developed an imaginative and subtle way of playing, combining virtuosity and sensibility. He is gifted with a natural talent for revealing the depth and beauty of the Bansuri sound.

Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė is a young Lithuanian music artist, gifted with a warm voice accompanied by traditional Baltic string instrument kanklės. She is taking part in international music projects (Merope, MaLituanie, Granvat), where she delivers her native music roots with sensuality and depth. Indrė is one of the few kanklės players who is maintaining and exploring this traditional instrument’s sound in various music styles around the world.

Bert Cools - young and talented guitar player from Belgium mainly active at the improvisational music scene of Europe. In 2010 he earns the Erasmus Jazz Prijs in Rotterdam for best musician.
Besides composing and playing with his own bands Merope, Hoera, Book of Air, Pudding oO, he works as free lance musician with various styles and music projects: Fabrizio Cassol Birds project, Pomrad, Bruno van Sina, Arne van Dongen trio, Ifa y Xango...
In 2011 he created the art platform 'granvat' together with his brother Stijn Cools, where they combine many art forms:  music, video, photography, design - www.granvat.com
