DescriptionDeleyaman was founded by American multi-instrumentalist Aret Madilian and French singer Beatrice Valantin in 2000. They have released nine studio albums and have toured Europe and North America several times since.
Their music is difficult to classify into a single genre. Their sound varies from post-rock to ethereal soundscapes, from Anatolian mysticism to dark ballads, from impressionism to minimalism. Deleyaman will be releasing their new album The Sudbury Inn on June 9th. Recorded between 2020 and 2022, some of Deleyaman's lyrics on their new album, The Sudbury Inn, are partly inspired by or make direct references to the "Tales of a Wayside Inn" written in 1862 by the American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow about the real stories of seven travellers telling their tales at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury. Deleyaman's music which lends itself well to cinema has been featured by iconic French actress and director Fanny Ardant on the soundtrack of her third feature film "Le Divan de Staline" (2017) starring Gérard Depardieu and Emmanuelle Seigner. The band have performed two concert-readings with Fanny Ardant in 2021 and 2022. The first of these two performances was staged at La Maison de la Poésie in Paris in January 2021. The concert was recorded and streamed online. The second concert-reading took place in January 2022 and was performed at the Trianon Transatlantique in Rouen, France. The Deleyaman track "Autumn Sun" was covered and performed on stage by the British-Australian band Dead Can Dance who included the song on the setlist of their 30 date European tour in 2019.
