Philippe Preudhomme Piano Fabian Tibaldi Voice Piazzolla X 3 celebrates the life and work of Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992), the single most important figure in the history of tango, and features by the Belgian bandoneonist Daniel Gruselle, the Belgian pianist Philippe Preudhomme and the Argentinian vocalist Fabian Tibaldi. Piazzolla’s music revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style called nuevo tango, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music and the surrealist poems from the Uruguayan poet Horacio Ferrer among other well-known writers. The programme includes some of Piazzolla’s most well-known and best loved music, Chiquilín de Bachin, Balada para un Loco and Balada para mi Muerte, together with rarely-performed songs such as Aire de la Zamba Niña and La Misma Pena with lyrics from Homero Expósito. Daniel, Philippe and Fabian will take the audience on a musical journey of emotional crescendos, ecstatic climaxes and melancholic descents, interspersed with narration telling the story of Astor Piazzolla life and songs.
