TCHAI QUARTET- TCHA LIMBERGER & LIANA GOURDJIA

Description

Tchai Quartet is a recent formation around violinists Liana Gourdjia and Tcha Limberger and a meeting point between different music worlds: the classical world on one hand,

the oral tradition of jazz musicians and gypsies on the other.

The classical part is taken extremely well care of by Liana Gourdjia, an excellent violinist born in Moscow of Georgian and Russian parentage. She had a classical music education from the age of four as a child prodigy, later continued in the US. She worked as a guest Concertmaster with leading orchestras such as the London Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony, is a professor at Ecole Normale Alfred Cortot in Paris and is a member of the new music Ensemble Variances. Liana is a frequent quest as a soloist and chamber musician at leading European, American and Russian music festivals.

Tcha Limberger, born in a gipsy family, has been working in the field of Django Reinhardt's music, and with bands playing music from all over Eastern Europe down to Greece. He is a multi instrumentalist and a singer the ten languages that he speaks. Tcha is a brilliant teacher and attracts students worldwide who have regular masterclasses with him. His latest cds with his groups Trio Tatavla, Les Violons de Bruxelles and The Budapest Gypsy orchestra received high praise in the presse.

The other band members in the Tchai Ensemble can vary, but most of the time there is Renaud Dardenne on guitar, Vilmos Csikos on double bass, often Benjamin Clement on guitar- all friends and dear colleagues of Tcha Limberger's Brussels entourage.

On the 23d of March, the ensemble will be playing as a trio, exploring some newly made arrangements of classical violin pieces, some Hungarian music closely related to classical music though never written down as such, and then moving to some Roumanian traditionals,

also closely related to classical music thanks to Dinicu etc.

They are also preparing a program for the Brosella Festival on the 7th of july, around Manouche songs, Tcha Limberger's family repertoire, with on this festival as extra guest Tcha's father Vivi Limberger.
