DescriptionKaja Nowak (1989, Poland) and Gian Ponte (1987, Brazil) started playing together in autumn 2014. Since then they’ve been having a lot of fun rehearsing, playing concerts and being coached by wonderful musicians. This time they would like to present at Art Base a programme of only Eastern European composers – Wieniawski, Janacek and Bartok. Wieniawski, being obviously close to Kaja’s heart, for being a Pole and a violinist, with his trademark elements of sweet melodies and firework technical displays; Janacek, with his violin sonata, a mysterious, troubled work, in which the listener can find echoes of the violence and the unsettling circumstances of World War I; finally Bartok, whose two faces you will be able to hear in his 1st violin sonata, composed at a period when his music reached a peak of modernity and dissonance, and the Romanian Dances, a playful and charming rendering of six Romanian folk songs, emanating joie de vivre. Come to get a taste of the East
